    Notes:

    Isaac White Martin Sr. worked as a merchant ship captain, delivering and picking up cargo to faraway places such as Gibralter, Maldonado (Spain), Lima, Guayaquil (Equador), Veracruz (Mexico), Havanna, Valpariso and Coliapo (Chile), and Guasca (Colombia) among others. Cargo included sugar, cocoa, furs etc. and wages were $35-$40 per month. The ships were sailing vessels or steam powered including one from Robert Fulton's famous fleet.
    Death notice: "Departed this life at half past 2 o'clock P.M. (on the 3rd) after a short but painful illness, Capt. Isaac W. Martin, in the 38th year of his age. His friends and acquaintances are respectfully requested to attend his funeral at 9 o'clock this morning from his late dwelling in Fleet Street." - Baltimore American newspaper, Oct. 4, 1832, copied by Thomas Bishop Martin
    "His death was caused from Cholera, which was contracted by his son, I. W. Martin, the second, and later given to the father in a glass of water which both had drunk. When my grandfather came home and found his son ill with cholera, it is said that he walked the floor continuously and at times was so distressed over his son's condition, that he would "pull his own hair out", unless guarded by someone, and alas, he himself caught the dreadful disease, died within a few days, while his son recovered and lived past 80 years. - Thomas Bishop Martin

    "Martin (Wiley): At Arlington, Md., on December 5, 1893, at one o'clock a.m., - Ann, aged 90 years, 7 months and 12 days, widow of the late Alexander Wiley, also former widow of the late Captain Isaac W. Martin, and daughter of William Dawson. The funeral will take place on Friday morning, December 8, at ten o'clock.     Married by Hezekiah Balch who ministered at Emmitsburg, Maryland from October 16, 1775 until 1778. He also ministerd at Tom's Creek and Piney Creek from 1775-1779. Further he served 1 year in York County, Pennsylvania congregations. He moved to Tennessee in 1784.
    John Martin and his wife became members of the First Presbyterian Church of Baltimore May 1,1780 and were again on the membership list in 1783, per Church records listed in the Maryland Historical Magazine Vol. XXXV, Sept. 1940, No. 3. The Church was located at Gay & Fayette Streets 1763-1766 and then at Fayette & North Streets through Rev. Patrick Allison's tenure ending 1802.
    John Martin was issued the First US Land Patent March 4, 1788 for 640 acres in Range 4, Township 7, Section 20, which is now known as Richland Township, Belmont County, Ohio. He sold some of this land in 1806 and bought 3 lots in St. Clairsville, Ohio in 1807. He moved his family from Baltimore to Ohio some time after 1800. His Will of 1815 indicated that he owned a tailor shop in St. Clairsville, Ohio. His wife Elizabeth and sons Samuel, Joseph, John and Isaac returned to Baltimore after John's death.
    Possible parents of John Martin: Chester County, Pennsylvania was an original County, founded in 1682. Part of Chester County became Lancaster County in 1728; part of Lancaster County became York County in 1749 and part of York County became Adams County in 1800. John Martin's parents may have lived in Chester County just north of Fredericks County, MD. If this is so they would have been living in what is now Adams County, PA. In 1751 part of Chester County became Berks County and part became Delaware County in 1789. Chester County's seat is now West Chester.

    Will of William Dawson July 21, 1802: In the name of God Amen I William Dawson of Allegany County and State of Maryland forever being greatly afflicted in Body But of sound mind memory and understanding and knowing the uncertainty of this transitory life do make publish and declare this my last will and testament in manner and form following, to wit. First of all I give and bequeath unto my two sons William and Benjamin Dawson that tract of parcel of land on which I now reside being a part of Clover Bottom containing one hundred acres more or less to them and their heirs forever. Also I will and bequeath unto my two aforesaid sons William and Benjamin a part of Clover Bottom containing sixty acres subjected nevertheless to the payment of one equal fourth part at a just valuation in money to each of my two sons Edward and Thomas Dawson by their brothers the aforesaid William and Benjamin Dawson. Also I give and bequeath to my wife Elizabeth Dawson all my personal estate of any kind that I may die possessed of to her and her heirs forever excepting one of my best horses known by the name of Ball which said Horse I will and bequeath at the death of my wife to my Grandson William Dawson son of my aforesaid son William Dawson and I hereby nominate and appoint William Shaw and Ebenezer Davis as Executors of this my last will and testament hereby revoking all former wills by me made. In witness whereof I hereunto set my hand and seal the eleventh day of June in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and two.
